The Albemarle County School Board has received the Superintendent's recommendations for redistricting students from Crozet Elementary to both Brownsville (29 students) and Meriwether Lewis (24 students) for Fall 2007 in order to address overcrowding at Crozet.
Redistricting calendar:
- March 8th, School Board receives recommendations
- March 15th, public hearing on proposal - Crozet Elementary at 6:30 PM
- March 22nd, School Board votes on redistricting

The Superintendant's recommendation for redistricting falls short in one key area, it fails to present more than one workable option for the board to consider. While the report states that staff considered other options but deemed them unworkable, the board should be presented with more than one feasible option so that a true decision can be made.

Mike - I have a couple of reactions. First, I agree more options on the table is always a good thing. I am sure the School Board will ask questions about the alternatives. Second, this situation is a little different as a spot redistricting of 53 students. Also, keep in mind that a redistricting committee did work on proposals for Crozet in 2005 and multiple options thus have been advanced recently. The 2007 recommendations are different from those in July 2005 and thus are responding to current enrollment trends at the three schools. Brian Wheeler
